Group Assessment Image
For my group portrait I decided to do my niece and nephews. There were so many pictures that I had to choose from and I loved them all..
For the lighting I used a small tungsten at the back to light the background. I used a larger tungsten and light defuser at the front right hand side. I sat the kids on boxes and used these to create different levels and have the kids do different things.
This would have to be my favourite shoot, it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. The kids were a great help and very cooperate ( lollies were a good bribe to get them to cooperate :) ).

Creative Portrait WORKSHOP
I am using these images as my workshop images as they are not what I wanted for my creative portrait.
I am going to re shoot doing similar set up but I wasnt halppy with these images so I am using as my workshop images.
Thanks heaps to my partner Trent for coming in and letting me photograph him.
Unfortunatly once I got home and looked at the images I decided that I need to re shoot this image.
Here are some I did this week.
For these images I had the tungsten light at the front right hand side with the light difuser in front of that so it wasnt as harsh. I also had a small tungsten light at the back left hand side to seperate him from the background.

Fill Light and Seperation Light
Broad vs Short Lighting
Workshop Task - Examples of fill and seperation lighting.
- Broad Lighting - the light is coming from the side that the cmera is facing - this lighting makes the face look fatter.
- Short Lighting - the light is coming from the opposite side of the camera - this makes the face look narrower.
- Key lighting - this is the main lighting - set this up first and then fill using other lights where needed.
- Fill light gets more detail in shadow areas.
- Sources of fill light; - other lights and reflectors.
- Silver Reflectors - creates a hard fill light, its very reflective and harsh.
- Gold Reflectors - creates a hard light but a more gold light.
- White Reflectors - creates a nice soft reflection of light.
- Seperates the subject from the background.
- Lighting of the background - the light faces the background.
- Hair or rim lighting - the light is behind the subject..
- Circular background light - creates seperation and background interest.
- Make sure you get a catch light in your subjects eye.
- Look at some examples of Alexis Sinclaires work.
Workshop Task - Examples of fill and seperation lighting.
Seperation Lighting - For this is used the soft box light at the front, left of the camera and the tugsten light to light Kelly's hair. I also used a white refletctor to fill the light.
Bacground Lighting - For this image I again used the soft box at the front and the tunsten at the back. I also used a white reflector in this image as well

Hollywood and Remberent Lihghting Techniques
Using tungsten lights and soft box
Hollywood style: Butterfly shape shadowing underneath the nose. The light is quite harsh when using this technoque but can be flattering on the right person.
Examples of Hollwood style using tungsten lighting
Hollywood Style using softbox
Rembrandt style: Triangle type shape on the fac. Dramatic lighting technique and is not the most flattering of light source. You still need to have detail in the second eye.
